Smart Tips To Keep Your House Healthy And Safe

These days, people have become more and more health conscious. We realize that we need to lead healthy lives to avoid serious health problems in the future. But, we don’t often consider our homes as part of this equation. In fact, most of us don’t even think about it! But there are simple things that you can do to ensure that your home stays healthy and safe for you and your family. Here are some smart tips to keep your house healthy and safe.

1. Regularly clean your gutters and vents.

Gutters are a common way for rain water to finally go down your pipes. This can cause clogs in pipes and cause water damage that’s not easily seen. Rain water can also contain plant spores, so it could make it harder for you to grow houseplants inside your home. You should also make sure that all of the grills and vents are kept clean too! Ventilation makes sure that all of the cold air out while keeping hot air in your house. Without it, you could have drooping walls and windows on your hands.

2. Repair any damage to your home’s foundation.

Entering a home that has a broken foundation is like entering a death trap! Water can travel into the cracks of your foundation, causing mold and mildew to grow. You could even see the ground underneath your house! If you notice any damage to your foundation, make sure that you get it repaired immediately. This will prevent water from seeping in through the damaged areas and causing serious problems later on. Take care of your foundation right now.

3. Reduce the dust in your home by using an air purifier or HEPA filters in all of the vents in your house.

A dusty home is never a healthy home. Dust can cause allergies, and you don’t want that! Cleaning your house regularly is key, but you should also invest in an air purifier or HEPA filter to make sure that the dust doesn’t build up over time. This will ensure that your house stays clean and safe for you and your family.

4. Use oil-based paints for all of your new painting projects.

There are air borne particles in oil paints, which are released during the application process. These are not good for you, and you should use water or latex based paints instead. If you need to repaint an area, make sure that you do it first. You will be able to breathe much easier after doing so!

5. Ensure that the drywall in your home has been installed properly.

If the drywall was not put up right, you could have more problems later on. Make sure that the seams of your drywall are tightly sealed and that they don’t allow any mold or mildew to grow behind them! Make sure that your painter also installs a vapor barrier before installing the drywall on your ceiling too. This is an essential step, as humid air can easily enter through these cracks.

6. Make sure that you your home’s moisture levels are always under check.

This is especially important if you live in colder climates, as the air can easily become too damp. Make sure to ventilate your home by using fans and open windows as needed! You should also make sure that all of your plumbing is working properly, even if it’s old and decrepit! Get any leaks or clogs taken care of immediately! This will prevent water damage from building up over time.

7. Maintain your chimney and ensure that it’s in top shape.

A chimney can be an essential part of keeping your home warm. It can also cause serious fire problems in the long-run too! If you notice any damage on the roof of your chimney, you should get it repaired right away! This will prevent a fire from happening that may end up causing major damage to your home!

8. Take care of all of the electric outlets, cords and cables in your house.

Old outlets, sockets, cords and cables can all become a real fire hazard! They can also cause electrical shocks too. If you have any of these in your home, look into getting them updated and replaced! Buying the correct ones to match your needs is also important.

9. Clean up the leaves and debris on your property with a leaf blower and rake.

Leaves can be a problem if they’re left on your lawn for too long as they can cause mold to grow. You should also make sure that you take care of your garden and lawn regularly. This will prevent pests and diseases from spreading easily too! Also, if the pests are already wound up, then you can always use residential pest control contractors.

10. Use a septic tank inspection service to ensure that it’s working properly.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong with septic tanks, and you may not even know until it is too late. You should always put your septic tank inspection services in place so that you know when something is going wrong with yours.

There are many simple things that you can do to help keep your home healthy and safe. Keeping your gutters and roofs clean will prevent water damage from ever happening. Making sure that the foundation of your home is in good shape will prevent mold from growing inside walls and ceilings too!
