Ever had that feeling – you go traveling and you’ve arranged everything, but then comes the food part. As a plant-based eater going traveling, you need to be extra prepared. Luckily, many others find themselves in a similar situation and have documented their experiences. In this article, we have summarized some of the key elements to successfully travel while maintaining a Whole Food, Plant-Based diet.

1. Finding WFPB friendly restaurants

When travelling, it is nice to not have to think about cooking food (if possible). Eating out is pure enjoyment for most of us. Directories like HappyCow are a good source to find out about local vegan and plant-based friendly restaurants, cafes and bakeries.

2. Meal prep

Many Whole Food, Plant-Based eaters are strict about meal prepping. There are many reasons for meal prep. Saving time and costs are two of the main reasons, but when it comes to travelling, it may be an absolute must to meal prep ahead of time to maintain a WFPB diet. The extent to which you can meal prep depends on many factors, so find out if meal prep will help benefit your travel.

3. WFPB friendly accommodation

If you plan to stay in one place for a while, make sure to find WFPB friendly accommodation or find a place that is near a plant-based hotspot.

4. Bring snacks

Simple WFPB snacks can help you a lot. Think of nuts and seeds, fruits, coconut chips, or evenly thinly sliced sweet potatoes if you have access to an oven. These are all easy to bring with you when going for a daytrip or while transiting to a new place.

5. Go to a local market

Going to a local market is not only good for a cultural experience, you are likely to find lots of fresh produce, vegetables, fruits and sometimes even vegan and plant-based snacks.
