How Do Women in Tech Deal With WFH Burnout?

Burnout

It is no new news that Covid-19 has increased and completely normalized the work-from-home practice. Remote work is not a pandemic-created work standard. Instead, remote work was doing great even before the virus outbreak. However, with increased restrictions and companies with no other recourse, remote work boomed and continues to be popular.

Since the emergence of work-from-home and social distancing, we have heard the term ‘ burn out’ quite often. People that have experienced working from home complain about how challenging it is to maintain boundaries between work and personal life. However, during the peak of the pandemic, remote workers coped with challenges worse than imbalanced work life.

A lot of research is done on how working from home is beneficial for employers who save up on sitting costs, recruitment expenses, and a lot more. However, for employees, especially female employees, working from home brings a lot more burnout.

According to a poll found by CNBC, 66% of female employees think that the pandemic has significantly damaged their careers. Most of the respondents in the survey believe that burnout is the primary reason for causing distress in their jobs. Not only this but more than 3,600 women workers considered leaving work in the previous year.

If we focus on the field of technology, then there is an evident divide among women on the debate of whether working from home is a bane or a boon for them. In a survey, 42% of women believe that WFH  caused a negative impact on their careers, while 41% of respondents think of WFH as a positive move for their jobs. Moreover, 17% believed that the work transition caused no impact on their careers or life.

From a female perspective, below are some methods to help women in the tech field avoid burnout and work efficiently from home.

Relax and Meditate

Relaxation can come in a lot of forms. For some people watching a feel-good TV show after a hectic work routine brings a lot more joy than meditating. If you are someone who fancies a good TV show night with a good meal then all you need is Spectrum Packages that offer a wide range of channels to release stress and anxiety from you.

Feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty concentrating on work is a common challenge for women working from home. If you are having a hard time focusing on your home and work duties, then a good 20-minute meditation can bring your focus skills back. However, you need to make sure that you keep your mediation practice regular to increase brain connections.

Journaling

Work and life stress often erupt negative thoughts in our brains. Most of us do not believe in sharing our thoughts with others, so this starts the process of clogging thoughts in our brains. If you are doing the same, you are making yourself remain in a negative loop that affects your work performance. So, we suggest you write down your negative emotions as soon as you find them increasing in your brain.

In a report, it was concluded that people who journal their anxiousness manage to reduce their stress level and deal with depression more effectively.

Conclusion: Prioritizing Mental Health

If you are having a hard time giving your best performance at work while working from home, then there is a lot that you can do for yourself. Except, to come up with a solution you need to prioritize your health over work and home duties.

One of the biggest problems that can emerge when you don’t pay attention to your mental health in these stressful times is addiction. Stress is actually one of the leading causes of addiction. If you feel you or someone you know has become addicted to drugs or alcohol consider enrolling in a drug rehab program. If you feel you might need rehab, start by finding out how outpatient rehab works.
