Beginning of Rahul Tripathi’s cricket career

Rahul Tripathi, a middle-order hitter with sound technical skills, followed in the footsteps of his father, an army veteran who had represented Uttar Pradesh in juvenile cricket and later competed at the collegiate level. Tripathi began his career at Deccan Gymkhana, one of the city’s oldest clubs, when his father was posted there while serving in the military.

Rahul Tripathi, the son of a man with a background in cricket, was able to improve his skills at the Deccan Gymkhana academy in Pune due to a transfer to the city. His father had played for the junior Uttar Pradesh and also participated in university cricket. The Deccan Gymkhana academy is known for being one of the oldest and most reputable training facilities in the country.

The right-handed batsman from Ranchi unexpectedly rose to prominence after an impressive performance for Rising Pune Supergiant in the Indian Premier League. Before this, he had not displayed much skill in any form of the game.

Tripathi played in 26 first-class games for Maharashtra in the 2012-13 season, but his performance was unremarkable, with only three centuries scored. He also did not have impressive records in 50-over or 20-over matches.

In 2012, he made his domestic cricket debut with Maharashtra. He scored 40 runs for them in 17 games throughout the first two seasons beginning in 2014–15, little north of 1000 runs overall. A few years later, with 504 runs, he led the team in scoring in the Ranji Trophy for the 2018–19 season.

Career in IPL

Tripathi’s IPL career got started with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. After a competent but unspectacular season with the Rajasthan Royals and several more of the same for the Kolkata Knight Riders, he stepped it up with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022 and recorded six scores of 30 or more.

Rahul Tripathi, who was selected for the Rising Pune Supergiant club despite a lacklustre domestic record in a variety of formats of the game, emerged as a surprise outstanding performer in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. With his natural flair and ease clearing the infield as a top-order batsman, he made life difficult for both pace and spin bowlers with his rapid footwork and superb hand-eye coordination. Although there was some scepticism when he was first named to the starting line-up, he ultimately proved to be a crucial member of the squad and made a huge contribution to their successful season, which included making it to their first IPL final.

Tripathi joined the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL season after his excellent campaign with Rising Pune Supergiant, but he did not get many chances to begin the batting because Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler were at the top of the order. He was primarily employed as a finisher, which was an unsuitable position for him. However, Tripathi replied with a superb performance, striking a fifty in a crucial, must-win game, as Rahane’s poor form forced him to bat first toward the conclusion of the tournament.
