Betting on Sports: How to Wager on Boxing?

Betting on boxing gives bettors a lot of options when placing their stakes. This allows them to decide which bets will suit the match best. Some new boxing bettors might only be aware of the type of bet where you’ll only need to pick the possible winner. However, betting on boxing is more than that; in reality, there are many ways you can earn while enjoying the match. Here’s a list of bets you can place every match.

Moneyline

Every online sportsbook commonly offers this type of bet. Accordingly, moneyline is also the most common and straightforward bet you can see in the boxing world. What you’ll need to do in this bet is to place stakes on a boxer that you think will end as the champion. If they win, you can enjoy your moneyline stakes. If they lose, then you lose your wager.

Round Betting

Round betting is closely similar to moneyline bets, except that betting type goes into specifics. As a bettor, the bet will require you to wager on a fighter and the round that you think they’ll achieve their victory. You don’t need to be correct with the method of victory, but you need to be particular with the round and the fighter.

So, if you bet on Rocky Balboa to win a fight against Ivan Drago in round 10, then he wins the fight in the tenth round, then you also win. If otherwise, then you lose your bet. It’s crucial that the fighter and the round are similar for you to win.

Over/Under Round Bet

On the other hand, if you think the bout will not go the distance, yet you still want to keep the risks, then you can consider betting on over/under round wagers. This type of bet also only involves wagering on two choices: over or under.

What happens is that the sportsbook will present a particular point or round and let its bettors decide whether they think the bout will end before or after that said point. So, for example, if the sportsbook presents round 9, you’ll need to bet whether the match ends over or under the ninth round.

Prop Bets

This type of boxing bet is usually placed together with other wagers. Prop bets are generally considered a side bet where the wagers usually don’t center on the match’s outcome. Instead, bettors will bet on what’s happening during the match, like if something’s going to occur or not.

The most common prop bets in boxing are knockdown special and the method of victory.

Method of Victory

Another type of bet that focuses on the events during the match is the method of victory. This bet basically lets the bettors decide on how they think the result of the match will be decided.

In boxing, you should know that it ends in various ways, and in this bet, you’ll be given choices to bet for. Here are a few ways a match can end and a possible list of choices that the sportsbook might present.

  • Knockout. The match ends because the opponent is unable to continue. This is usually concluded when the opponent can’t return to their feet after the referee has reached a count of ten.
  • Technical Knockout. This is when the referee or doctors deem the boxer unable to resume fighting or if they assess the fighter as in no condition to continue.
  • Unanimous Points Decision (UD). The bout has gone the distance, and the judges are responsible for deciding who’ll be the winner.
  • Split Points Decision (SD). This is almost similar to UD, except that the choices of the judges differ from each other. Two judges have awarded the winning fighter, but the other judge has deemed the other person the winner. In other words, these judges have split decisions on who should be the actual winner.
  • Draw. The match ends in a draw. It can either be a majority or a split draw, which also works almost the same way as UD and SD.
  • Opponent Disqualification (DQ). A match ends prematurely when a fighter (or both of them) has continuously broken the rules. If one boxer has been DQ, the other person will be declared the winner. However, if both of them are DQ, the match will be declared a no contest.
  • Opponent Retired (RTD). To explain this simply, it’s when a boxer quits during the game or refuses to continue for some reason. Then, the other boxer will automatically be hailed as the winner.

You must now know how you’ll place your bets after looking at the roster and learning more about the different betting types. Knowing how you’ll place your bets gives you a significant advantage and increases your chance of winning more money. So, continue learning other kinds of bets to have better options.
