RESUME WRITING TIPS AND FORMATS

FORMATS

The content of this text will be focused on resumes, all that is needed to make a resume effective, and the quintessence of a resume in general.

RESUME

So many persons have made lots of errors while creating resumes as they do not have a clear understanding to differentiate a resume from a curriculum vitae (CV) thereby accumulating errors. A resume is a formal document created by a job applicant to itemize his/her qualifications (with much emphasis on skills and experience and not academic accomplishments) for a position in industries, non-profit organizations, and the public sector.

A resume mostly has a specialized cover letter that comes with it. This specialized or customized cover letter coveys the applicants’ interest in a specific job or company and also draws attention to the most applicable specifics on the resume.

It is not enough to only know what a resume is but it is also essential to know how to structure your resume. How to structure your resume is answered through the explicit details of the types of resumes that we will be discussing now:

  • Chronological Resume

Just as the book of Chronicles is articulately embroidered with details of events so also is a chronological resume. A chronological resume has each section itemized details in chronological or date order. A chronological resume is apt for those with vast work experience in alliance with the type of job they are applying for. The Work experience section of the chronological resume is the most articulated and extends between seven to ten years. However, this is dependent on the number of years at one’s former institution(s).  A chronological Resume is a very common type of resume.

  • Targeted Resume

A targeted resume can be created in diverse ways; it can be chronological, functional, or combination but it is without a doubt specifically targeted to the position for which an applicant finds interest. Work History, Skills, and Education sections of the targeted resume are gently arranged or assembled to stress the job’s requirements using precise keyword matching from the description.

The applicant is required to research the company’s values, vision, and mission and replicate those beliefs genuinely. A targeted resume is quite popular amongst resumes.

  • Functional Resumes

Functional resumes are structured to contain the essential skills needed for the post that an applicant is applying for. Functional resumes aim to be particular on skills and their application relating to the job description as opposed to where and when you were formerly employed carrying out the type of job you are applying for.

  • Combination Resume

A combination resume combines both the features of chronological and functional resumes.  This typically implies that a vast work experience, as well as a well-built-out skills section, are enlisted within this resume – combination resume. Creating a combination resume is quite easy with sections containing significant work and education experience.

You can start your resume with the job titles you are applying for. Write out a vast professional summary and skills section, then add a chronological work experience toward the tail end of the resume.

CONCLUSION

A resume beyond reasonable doubt uncovers everything about you in the presence of your potential employer. If it is well seasoned with the basic ingredients then you have an edge over other applicants and if otherwise, you definitely would not be considered for the job.

It is however expedient for you to adopt the use of a resume format that is most likely irresistible, with well-organized sections structured professionally. This will always make you stand a chance.
